Colombian farmers were interviewed to investigate their knowledge and perception about the
relationship with the soil and agroecosystems quality and earthworms. In the study a map was
chosen, with a non probabilistic random systemic design, nine windows of one km2 with 16
testing points at 200 m distance inside each window in the La Vieja watershed.
In the collection of data were interviewed 30 farmers and oral history was considered with
questions about environmental systems of support and culture. Farmers? ability to recognise
different use for earthworm and was significantly influenced by their length of experience in
appraising good condition of soil and association with the colour, some indicator plants, and
best state of the nutrients but a lot of species were not identified, ecological category or the
nutrients cycle of soil. Most farmers (81%) were aware of the level of profit and production of
crops and the soil characteristics, in their farms separating the land for soil condition and
abundance of earthworms are very important for this prognostic.
The local human communities determine the level of avail and land use. This study shows that is
necessary to establish a common language between scientific and farmer communities with the
interaction of local knowledge and experts. This article discusses two images of the importance
including the ideas that are complementary rather than contradictory.
